What Causes Numbness In The Fingers After Carpal Tunnel Surgery?

Hi , I had carpal tunnel surgery on feb 23 and my scar seems to be healing but half of my middle finger , half of my ring finger and about an inch below the two fingers into the palm are still numb since the surgery. Should I be worried? Doctor said it might be a couple of months due to the severity of my carpal tunnel before the surgery.

Hi,

The median nerve passes through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. The median nerve provides sensation to the palmar aspect of the first, second, and third digits. Carpal tunnel surgery (Release of the transverse carpal ligament) is done to relieve the pressure on the nerve. This often provides prompt relief of pain symptoms but slow recovery of numbness and strength.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
