Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Numbness In The Hands And Arms After Taking Metoprolol?
I began using linisopril (20grams daily) and metoprolol (50g daily) five days ago. It was for high blood pressure. First three days were great, aside from nightly numbness in fingers hands and arms. My blood pressure was normal for first time in long time and I felt good (no lightheadedness!) The last two days my blood pressure is gradually going up, I m lightheaded again and the numbness is worse. How can it be good for three days then go south so quickly?
Lightheadedness as well as tingling sensations and numbness in the fingers and hands are fairly common symptoms of metoprolol and necessitates a prompt revisit to your doctor. Lisinopril also contributes to the lightheadedness.
If the numbness you feel occurs on exposure to cold, this might be an indicator to stop the drug.
I do not advise my patients to stop metoprolol abruptly as it might have rebound effects. If i were your doctor, i would either place you on a lower dose or switch to another alternative after tapering you off it, depending on the severity of the symptoms.
I hope i have answered your question.
Please feel free to ask any more questions you might have.
Best wishes.
