What Causes Numbness In The Hands And Legs?

I occasionally have slight numbness in my hands, arms, legs and toes. My extremedies fall asleep easily. Sometimes I wake up feeling like I am trembling inside. I do have back pain and sometimes I feel pain in my legs from that, but the numbness is happening in my upper body too. I am in good health otherwise. I am 68 years old, female, 5 2 tall, weighing 140 lbs. I am still working at an office job, but I am relatively active. I have high blood pressure, chlorestol and acid reflux, all treated by medications. I am concerned I am having heart issues or could have a stroke. I live alone and am feeling anxious about the numbness. Please advise.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to feel anxious regarding the numbness that you are experiencing.
With a history of back pain, it is possible that the numbness is related to the back pain.

The nerves from the spinal cord emerge from the back and pass to different points of the body.
Changes in the back can affect these nerves and cause abnormal sensations such as numbness.

You may need further imaging of the spine such as an MRI.

I hope this helps
