What Causes Numbness In The Hands While Sleeping?

When I wake from sleeping on my left side, my right hand fingers are sometimes tingling or numb, and when sleeping on my right side, my left hand fingers are sometimes tingling or numb. When I sleep on my back, I do not notice any tingling or numbness when I wake. I am wondering about possible causes.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have numbness in the hands while sleeping. Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like Carpal tunnel syndrome that is nerve (Median) compression at wrist , peripheral nerve compression , beriberi , diabetic nerve damage , multiple sclerosis or wrong sleeping position( sleeping with hand under your weight) . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor will take history , order CT scan and MRI to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe nerve supplement , anti inflammatory , recommend physical therapy and stretching exercises . Doctor may also refer you to neurologist for nerve problem. Take proper rest and apply warm compresses to arm .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
