What Causes Numbness In The Left Hand After Taking Excedrin For Ocular Migraine?
I had an ocular migraine today. I took a dose of Excedrin Migraine and rested for 30 minutes until the symptoms went away. I don t get migraines other than ocular migraines, and I rarely get those...may one or two a year at most. When it happens, I get blind spots in the left side of my field of vision with zig-zag flashing color patterns. There is no pain until the migraine has passed, then I have a mild headache that lasts for maybe another 30 minutes. Today was a little odd, though, because about an hour after taking the medicine, my left hand went numb with a bit of a tingly pins-and-needles sort of feeling. This lasted for around 15-20 minutes, and then things went back to normal. I was sitting at my desk typing on the computer at the time, so it s possible my hand just went to sleep due to poor posture - BUT - I haven t had that happen before, and since I had just had the ocular migraine, I was a little concerned there may be something more serious going on. I called my optometrist and spoke to the assistant. She told me there wasn t anything they could do after the symptoms had passed...and if the symptoms had passed, I wasn t in danger of anything they would be looking for like a detached retina. I also called my doctor and left a message with the assistant there, but the doctor didn t return my call. The entire episode lasted about 1 hour 15 minutes, and I ve had no further symptoms for 6 hours. How concerned should I be right now?
As per my clinical experience, the Excedrin contains combination of Aspirin, Acetaminophen and Caffeine for the purpose of pain relief in wide variety of clinical disorders. Among the routine side effects, there is no documented one which is indicating possible numbness in one of the upper limb portion. Hence, I would consider postural adaptation induced event via transient circulatory changes in some particular nerve territory rather than else. As the episode has not returned back again at an interval of 6 hours, I would consider not to worry now and just relax.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
