What Causes Numbness In The Left Hand?

Hi: I have sever numbness and loss of feeling in my left hand, and it appears to be carpal tunnel, but it is the complete opposite side of my hand that is affected. The heal of my palm to the center of my hand on both sides, the pinky, and ring finger are the affected parts of my hand. I do play guitar professionally, and this hand it quite bent and is a possible cause of CTS. Is it possible to have this when the opposite side of the hand is affected?

Hello! Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by the compression of median nerve, and it is characterized by signs and symptoms that derive from median nerve disttress. Among these signs can be numbness and tingling in the hand, wich become worse at night. One of the most common complaint is the slipping of object from the hand. These symptoms are intermitent. Complaints are localized to the palmar aspects of the four first fingers. Patients may have pain in the wrist and palmary region or in the upper arm to the elbow, and loss of the power in the hand.
In my opinion by the information you gave above the ulnar nerve is affected from the cubital tunnel syndrome. This syndrome is caused by the entrapment of the ulnar nerve at the elbow. It also have hand weakness, tingling and numbness complaints, but it is distributed in the forth and little finger, in advanced stages these two fingers can bend and cannot be extended, make the hand resemble like a claw, wich is known as ulnar claw.
Electrodignostic tests (nerve conduction and electromyography) are necessary to confirm the diagnosis.
I hope i have been of help
