What Causes Numbness In The Left Hand?

Been sick for 5 weeks - getting over virus. Noticed last few weeks when knitting no feeling in left Hand but still use. Today did training on hill descends approx 1000 steps down cliff face then back up. Going down hill friends behind me said I looked drunk and and had my arms out to keep balance. Bit unsteady by nothing to worry about. Coming back up different story. Kept feeling like wanted to tip over always to the left. People said turn back but my car was at time. Stopped to rest lots. One bad time was holding on to the chain and body leant over-if hadn t been holding on to chain wouldn t be here now. Cliff side straight down....
