What Causes Numbness In The Left Leg?

About a month ago I had a slight case of the flu and muscle spasms in my left leg just above the knee. By the end of a week I developed numbness on the inside of my left leg from above my knee to just below my knee. I also had a sharp pain on the right side of my left knee I went to the orthopedic took e-rays some arthritis showed up so I was put on medication. Went back to the doctor after 2 weeks with some improvement, numbness still there. I ve spent many days using a hot tub with strong jets of water coming out and swimming. Numbness is still there and some pain. What do you think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Thanks for putting up your query over here.
There can be many causes of persistent numbness in your left leg.To narrow down the focus as which one among this can be likely cause,I would like to ask you,
Do you still experience any pain, swelling, stiffness of your left knee joint?
Do you experience increasing weakness of left leg and thigh muscles along with the numbness?
Do you experience low back pain on left side that radiates to left leg?
Have you been evaluated for diabetes or have any other medical condition?
Are you on any medications?
All these needs to be evaluated based on certain investigations. It may include blood investigations, nerve conduction studies, radiological scans of knee or spine etc depending on your this clinical history.
Persistent numbness can also be a sign of vitamin B12 deficiency for which you can take Neurobion tablets with physician's prescription.
Thanks and regards.
