What Causes Numbness In The Lower Leg And Foot?

I had what was called a sciatic attack at the beginning of 2016. The pain gradually subsided but at the moe t I have numbness to big toe,top of foot, and outer calf all on the right side. Two MRI s have shown bulging disks etc but NO herniation. What is causing this numbness? Also have pain in lower back hip area. Am being told now that there is nerve damage..Sciatic nerve did not heal properly. Is this correct? Will this numbness/weakness go away? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to sciatica pain. As per your queries the clarification are as follows:

1) The numbness is caused by sciatica nerve damage due to the bulging disc.

2)The symptoms may be treated through medications such as anti-inflammatory medications. I also suggest gentle stretching exercises.

3) If the symptoms continue the next step of treatment consists of surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
