What Causes Numbness In The Middle Finger And Nail Discoloration?

Hi, My middle finger on my right hand loses circulation, goes white and numb. Finger nail turns purple. This lasts for a few minutes and then circulation returns. Happens once or twice a day. No pain. I am 49yr old female. Work in dairy industry. I thought it may be caused by damage to back or arm from 6 hours per day putting cups on cows.

Hi,

Noted your history of middle finger going numb and white momentarily for a few minutes and then the circulation returns, thinking of damage to the back or arm by doing 6 hours job of putting cups on cows.
It is possible cause as you are thinking but then why only one finger is the question.
This can be detected by the following:
Color doppler or arteriography of the affected area may give a clue.
Or there can be an extrinsic factor like enlarged bony spur or so that is temporarily obstructing the blood flow and causing the symptoms.
Hence a proper examination and investigations by the Doctor can help you to advise further care, investigations, referral to a Specialist and as needed.
Try to stop the work for a few days and see if the rest to the part helps in relieving the symptoms. If this helps then you may have to use brace or change the job.
