What Causes Numbness In The Neck And Jaw?

My husband, 76 yrs of age, had carotid surgery on his right artery about 3 months ago. He had a 80% blockage. After his neck was healed, his right side of the neck has been numb. From the area behind the ear through down to his jaw is still numb, we did not know it was to be for so long. He has an appointment with his surgeon in a few weeks and when I saw this on computer, I wanted to ask your opinion of the reason of the numbness still is there. Thank you for your thoughts on this.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The numbness in the neck & jaw is due to linking on the nerve supplying the area due to-

-cervical vertebral or disc problem or
-entrapment of the nerve in the scar tissue of surgery.
MRI of the cervical spine /the operated area would reveal the cause.

Please consult a neurosurgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
