What Causes Numbness In The Tongue And Frequent Eye Infection?

I have had these symptoms: 1) part of the right side of my tongue feels numb (feels better when I lay down). This has been that way for a year and a half. 2) for the last 3 months, I am experiencing eye infections, conjunctivitis. With this, every so often around my eyes get red and swollen. I also have scaly skin on the skin area around my eyes when this flares up. 3) since this summer, I have experienced these symptoms when I drink alcohol - face face gets hot, heart beats fast, my ears and upper lip feel numb for a short time. I have quit drinking any alcohol due to this reason. Is there any advise you can give me? I have seen an optomologist and he has given me a gel antibiotic to put on my eyes each night however it is not taking care of the reddness around my eyes, swollen skin and scaly skin flare ups.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query your symptoms such as numbness in the tongue and frequent eye infection are indicative of low blood sugar level in your body that is it could be due to diabetes. Severe acute sinus infection along with low blood glucose level in your body causing these symptoms. Sometimes infection travels from sinuses to eye or make the mouth numb.

I would suggest you to visit a general practitioner once and get your HbA1c levels checked. Go for testing of random and fasting blood glucose and start treatment accordingly. Keep brushing twice daily and use Listerine mouth wash. Do flossing twice a week. Keep drinking plenty of water. Go for exercise daily. Get insulin levels monitored on monthly basis follow up. Doctor may also refer you to ophthalmologist.
