What Causes Numbness In Vagina, leg Pain And Irregular Bowel Movements Post Back Surgeries?

Hi My Name is Julie. I have had 2 previous back surgeries. L4 L5 s1 region. About 6 ths ago I started having what I thought was a knee issue. After seeing a Dr. and finding out there was nothing wrong I now know it is my back. I have had an MRI which shows a buldge at that level. There is not much left of the disc. I had 1 injection a month ago and am slowly getting worse every day. It is effecting both legs and feet. I have burning and numbness in my vaginal area and I am not having normal or regular bowel movements. It is painful to stand or sit mainly due to the loss of feeling or frozen foot as I call it. Im frustrated.. Its hard to be at work and I need some answers

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The symptoms you're experiencing, such as numbness in the vaginal area, leg pain, and irregular bowel movements, could potentially be related to nerve compression or damage in your lower back. The bulging disc at the L4-L5-S1 level might be causing pressure on the nerves that supply sensation to the legs, feet, and pelvic region.

It's important to follow up with your healthcare provider or a spine specialist who can evaluate your symptoms and review your MRI results in detail. They may recommend further diagnostic tests, such as nerve conduction studies or electromyography, to assess nerve function and identify the specific cause of your symptoms.

Treatment options for nerve-related symptoms after back surgery may include physical therapy, pain management techniques, medication, or in some cases, revision surgery. The best course of action will depend on the underlying cause and the severity of your symptoms. It's essential to communicate your concerns and symptoms clearly to your healthcare provider to ensure you receive appropriate care.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. If you require a personalized response, kindly use the Ask A Doctor service and post a follow-up query.
