Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Numbness On The Left Side Of The Face?
I m a 56 year old male with a history of atrial fibrillation, hypertension, and TBI. Currently taking metropolol, eliquis, and losartan. Symptoms: mild numbness/paralysis on left side of face (x intermittent flashes of pain where jaw meets left ear (x 3-4 days) increased frequency of sensation of hands/arms falling asleep (x 3-4 days; can t recall if it is one-sided) More to worry about than Bell s Palsy? Two episodes of that 20+ years ago. Thanks!
Consult your general physician as soon as possible and get these tests done. I would also suggest you to switch eliquis for warfarin if there are no contraindications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Muhammad Adnan Iqbal

What Causes Numbness On The Left Side Of The Face?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. The symptoms that you have explained are worrisome and your history points out two diagnosis: 1. Bell palsy 2. Transient ischemic attack I think the latter is more likely as you have Atrial fibrillation. I would suggest you to have: 1. ECG 2. Echocardiogram to exclude clot 3. CT brain 4. Baseline blood profiles Consult your general physician as soon as possible and get these tests done. I would also suggest you to switch eliquis for warfarin if there are no contraindications. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Muhammad Adnan Iqbal
