Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Part of my thumb on the left hand was numb when I woke up on 09-19-16, (Just the right side of the thumb) as of now 09-21-16 the numbing is still present and seems to be increasing in area, athough not much. I m 55yrs old, how much of a concern is this?
I would like to suggest you some tests: 1. MRI of the hand including wrist. 2. EMG of the left hand 3. Nerve Conduction Study 4. Thyroid Function Test (T3, T4, TSH) 5. Vitamin B12 level 6. Fasting Blood Sugar
I would also like to start this medication: Pregabalin If pain too much, Ibuprofen as needed but if you have to take more than one dose, there must be a gap of 6 hours.
Post the results after it comes, we have skilled neurologists here and they can follow you up and give next course of treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
