What Causes Numbness On Tongue And Lower Cheek Post Trauma?
Hi, a few weeks ago I fell out of a garage attic, landed on my feet and then fell on my back. As I fell I hit the top portion of my head, I jerked my head back forward when I hit my head. I was bruised up but felt OK. Several days later I noticed that my left side of my tongue went numb and the lower left portion of my left cheek. Only lasted a few seconds. This same feeling has happened a few times since then. No pain anywhere just numbness like novacain.
I can understand your concern. From the symptoms of numbness you are describing, it seems that when you fell and hit your head, you may have injured the mandibular nerve.
Many times, the feelings of numbness disappear after a few days as the injured nerve fibres regenerate. It might take 3 to 6 weeks for regeneration. However, if you feel that numbness episodes are increasing in duration, intensity or frequency, you should visit a neurologist or neurosergeon for further investigations.
I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish your injury heals soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
