What Causes Numbness Under Operation Site After Appendicitis?

I had my appendix removed on Thursday last week .It was very badly infected so they had to open me up to remove it properly. I m now recovering at home but have noticed I have no feeling under my operation site. Is this normal and will the feeling ever come back?

Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

Appendicitis leading to Open appendectomy leads to a scar on operation site and there is usually numbness and altered sensations in this area after surgery.

It takes some time for numbness to go and feeling sensations normally back. What happens is, when we cut apart the skin and underlying muscles, all the nerves (smaller, unnamed, tissue end nerves) in the way also get disconnection cuts at random. This causes all of this feeling of numbness. It takes weeks to months for paresthesias to come back to normal feelings and normal sensations perception.

Hope I answered all of your health concerns . If you have further questions, feel free to contact me anytime. If satisfied, please give a five Star rating and don't forget to Close the discussion.

Have a wonderful time ahead.

Best Regards!
