What Causes Occasional Bouts Of Sweet Tooth?

I watch what I eat and have occasional bouts of sweet tooth. Two pregnancies with no indication of high blood sugar until routine bloodwork came back high. I am 42 and have been experiencing blurred vision when trying to read small print. This is the only symptom related to potential diabetes. My mother had adult onset diabetes due to lifestyle. I am going to be pre-screened with the sugar drink and am freaking out. What can I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are concerned about developing diabetes. Since your mother has diabetes you are at risk for also developing it. To help reduce your risk you need to watch your diet by eating more fruits and vegetables and less sugars and animal fats. You should also start a regular exercise program If you are overweight lose that weight.

Once you start doing these things you can also do daily blood sugar monitoring where your fasting blood sugars should not go above 126
