What Causes Occasional Chest Pain With Difficulty In Breathing?

I get a sharp pain occasionally on the left side of my chest. When this happens, I can't take in even half a breath of air because the pain gets more intense. it only lasts for about two minutes. This has happened on and off since I was a kid. I'm now 46. my brother gets this problem too.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hi. I can understand your concern.
It would be advisable for you to get a chest x ray done. If it is normal then get a PFT done which will tell if you have any bronchitis.Consult a pulmonologist for the same.or it could be just a muscle pull. Do not lift heavy weights
Possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more.
Ibuprofen is anti inflammatory.
You will definitely improve with combination of painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs.
Also apply warm water pad on affected areas.
Avoid movements causing pain.
Don't worry, you will be alright in 1-2 weeks.
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
