Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Occasional Pain Around The Right Thigh?
Yes. I occasionally experience pain around my right thigh when I m on my feet for a long time. This condition has been exacerbated by the fact I m now working on my feet for four hours a day in a local high school cafeteria. The pain is a sharp, stinging pain (it feels like it s in the skin) that hits hard, subsides and then hits hard again. I have no idea what is causing it. I ve also experienced it when having to walk long distances. Is it possible to have gout in your thigh? It doesn t occur in my left thigh. Is it a circulation problem? I do have some other leg issues currently but this is the one that causes the most discomfort. I do take daily meds for heart disease, high cholestorol, and high blood pressure.
From your description, I am of the opinion that peripheral vascular disease, fibromyalgia and local muscular spasms are three diagnoses that I will go with. For PVD, a Doppler venography of the affected limb would be useful. Fibromyalgia is a diagnosis of exclusion and is corrected by steroid injection in the affected limb and site. Local Muscular spasms will relieve by anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxants. What's is Cholesterol level and BP right now? Because these may give information about thrombus if any.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
