Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I am wondering what causes what I ve been told are ocular migraines. My symptoms don t precisely follow the description. Occasionally, in one eye only at a time, I see black geometric images that rotate constantly. Is this enough information? Thank you.
Hello, Thankyou for asking your question at health care magic.
Geometric patterns seen only in one eye is indicative of ocular/ophthalmic migraine. Ocular migraine may or may not he followed by migraine headaches.
Classical migraine associated with headache also have eye symptoms, but they occur in both eyes
Ocular migraine occur due to Spasms in blood vessels in the retina( the lining in the back of the eye).Several causes have been attributed to ocular migraines like bright light, loud sounds, positive family history, hormone estrogen etc.Exact cause of ocular migraine is not known. If there is any specific triggering factor ,try to avoid it. Ocular migraines can sometimes result in vision loss.Medications like anti seizure medication and tricyclics can help prevent this.I recommend you consult your doctor see if these medications are right for you.
Hope I was helpful. Please feel free to address any more concerns Regards, Dr.Lekshmi
