I have an oily discharge from my rectum after going to the bathroom. The discharge can leak for several hours. There is no pain or discomfort and stools are normal. I am 59 years old, weigh 180 pounds and am 5 9 tall, generally in good health. I want to know what is causing this and how to get it under control.

The oily discharge you mentioned is most probably mucus discharge from your rectum and There are Variety of Medical conditions which may lead to this However The most common causes for mucus rectal discharge are benign and not serious , But serious pathology is sufficiently likely to warrant though thorough examination. Few Common conditions that can cause rectal mucus discharge are hemorrhoids, anal fissures, rectal prolepses, proctitis and perineal warts. Also perineal Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis is possible for rectal mucus discharge. A very rare condition that causes rectal mucus discharge is anal tuberculosis, syphilis, gonorrhea or AIDS. rarely it can also be caused by rectal carcinoma and villous adenoma.
As you can see, there are a lot of Medical conditions that could be reason for your problem, which mean you should visit a Gastroenterologist and make examination. That is nothing embarrassment, it’s about your health
