Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have been having swelling in my chin.. i have been allergy tested for citrus, shrimp, and lobster.. all of these came back negative... i have the last 2 times this has happened, i have had to take benadryls, and eventually take my epipen... please help...
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain the most common causes for on and off swelling in chin can be allergic reaction to some known or unknown allergen but in case if it turns out to be negative then the other cause for the swelling can be in case if it is located just below the chin can be swelling in the submental salivary gland which is a major salivary gland and clogging of the duct of the salivary gland can lead to swelling in the gland especially during meals when the saliva flow is high.. The clogging of the ducts occurs due to formation of crystalline stones from minerals present in the gland or due to foreign body obstruction of the duct orifice.. You can consult an oral physician and get evaluated and you should visit him when the swelling is present so that proper diagnosis and treatment can be planned as he can advise you to get an MRI of the gland done..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
