What Causes One To Not Feel Pain Even After Hurting Oneself?

I'm curious about a nerve condition I have had my hole life. There are times where I don't feel pain when I hurt myself, or when I do feel it, it goes away almost right away. I have no problem feeling temperature or any other sensations. Not sure if it's shock or what. Some times I have accidentally cut myself and not noticed till I saw blood or its soar hours later. I twist my ankle and only feel the pain for a minute before it goes away. I have pulled and torn muscles and not felt it for a long time. Any idea what it may be? I'm male and 32 years old

Dear patient,
First of all let me tell you that there are different pathways of feeling deep pain and different pathways for feeling superficial sensations, temperature and pressure. You have some neurological deficit for sure and you need to undergo an extensive screening of blood investigations and spinal MRI to rule out the possible disorders like diabetes mellitus, slipped intervertebral discs, myelopathy which may lead to such a differential sensation issue. Also if u have a childhood history of suffering from frequent sore throatz, or fever with rashes or fever with headache, neck stiffness and vomiting, you are likely to be suffering from the neurological sequelae to a childhood infective illness.
