Hello and welcome to HCM,
Painless
onycholysis is commonly caused by trauma especially repetitive trauma.
Other conditions which cause onycholysis is
fungal infection of the nail bed,
psoriasis, response to medication used for psoriasis to name some common conditions.
Trauma which causes onycholysis is repetitive trauma due to over use of keyboard, over-enthusiastic manicuring etc.
Fungal infection leads to thickening of nail plate and the skin beneath the nail bed.
Psoriasis is characterized by formation of silvery scales which can be removed on peeling and presence of bleeding spots when the scales are removed.
Hand foot and mouth disease is caused by virus and is not characterized by onycholysis.
A clinical assessment is necessary to find the cause of the symptoms, relevant investigations and thus diagnosis.
Management can be planned after diagnosis.
Thanks and take care
