What Causes Opacity In The Right Lung In The Area Of Pneumonia?

I had pnuemonia 5 months ago and I had another chest xray this week due to some coughing when I lie down and my doctor wants me to have a CT scan. I quit smoking 22 years ago. There is opacity in my right lung, which is where the pneumonia was originally. I am very concerned about this.

Hi,

Opacity in the lung where you had lung tissue affected by pneumonia previously could be due to consolidation by filling of fluid, such as pus, blood, or water and followed by fibrosis.

X-ray chest would only indicate the presence of opacity but doesn't reveal much of its details. CT scan would give better information about the opacity. You may require a lung biopsy to confirm the diagnosis following what the CT scan would reveal. Kindly get the CT scan as advised and do the necessary follow-up as suggested.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
