Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recently been diagnosed with oral lichen planus. At or near the same time I have began experiencing a tightness of lump like discomfort in my esophogus when swallowing or spontaneously. Can you tell me if the two are related? I also do have limited scleroderma, and in the last year have had a goiter develop and am taking 50 mcg daily of levothyroxin.
I can understand your concern. Lichen planus is an autoimmune disorder which develops when body's immunity starts working against body itself. Thus, the cause of lichen planus is unfortunately unknown.
The constriction that you are experiencing in the esophagus cannot be related to lichen planus. However, it can be related to scleroderma that you are suffering from.
If you are having extreme discomfort, you should visit an oral physician for the clinical examination and further discussion regarding the disorder and its treatment.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
