Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I don t have insurance, so I haven t been to a specialist. I ve had throat troubles for about a month now. At first, it was just a blisterish thing on the back of the throat. My regular doctor prescribed a Z-Pack and said to call back if it wasn t cleared up. I did that. Then he prescribed Amoxicillin. I did a 7 day course of that and then a refill, because I wasn t feeling right. Then I went back to the doctor and he said it looked like Oral Thrush. Now I ve been on Nystatin for a week and it still hasn t cleared up. Should I be worried or does it usually take this long to get everything cleared up?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of oral thrush despite taking Nystatin which seems to be due to persistent fungal infection leading to formation of thick white cheesy patches over surface of the tongue and on inner surface of lips, cheeks, gums. It can cause burning sensation in mouth and dryness of oral cavity. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take Amphotericin B when you seems to be immunocompromised and does not respond to other drugs. You should take Probiotics like Yoghurt in diet and add garlic. Visit oral pathologist once if symptoms keeps on persisting and start treatment after prescription. Avoid sharp, hot and spicy foods. Maintain complete oral hygiene. Avoid stress and smoking or drinking habit if you do
Hope your concern has been resolved.
