What Causes Pain And Burning In Palate Post Intake Of Keflex?

had sinus infection over Christmas-took course of Keflex, but left with a lot of pain across upper teeth, burning in roof of mouth which is almost constant. Saw my dentist who referred me on to my ENT after ruling out dental issue. ENT ordered xrays of sinuses which came out ok. Took prednisone for 12 days and then 10 day course of Levaquin all to no avail. Pain as bad as ever. Had septoplasty done in late 1980 s. Have had this type of pain before with sinus infections, but it always went away after a few days. Was diagnosed with Sjogren s Syndrome about a year ago. ENT wonders if there is any connection. Do not know what to do next. Please help. Thanks, Kay

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain pain across upper teeth along with burning sensation over the roof of mouth are most common in case of sinus infection due to close proximity of maxillary sinuses to this area..
In case if you are diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome which has classical features of dry mouth and dry eyes, therefore dry mouth can also led to burning sensation inside mouth and is more prominent on tongue and palate, therefore it can be a potent cause..

I would suggest you to start gargling with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
You can start chewing sugarfree chewing gums as it stimulate saliva flow..
You can also do cool water rinses..
You can also take saliva substitutes if there is severe dry mouth..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
