What Causes Pain And Burning Sensation In The Feet?

I am 70, male, married and in excellent health. 6 foot 2, 200 pounds. Working out three times a week on weights and swimming. Mainly sugar free diet. Lots of salads. Just recently experiencing pain in feet, mostly left foot. This pain is needle-like and occurs on top center, sometimes heal, sometimes small toe. Not ache, but more pinpoint burning. Recent visit with optometrist, with full set of tests, including for glaucoma, showed normal. At this point, no other associated symptoms.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The most common cause of burning sensation of feet is as a symptom of Diabetes or Vitamin B12 deficiency. Hence better to get blood investigations done for the same. If these values are within normal limits, next step would be to visit a neurologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
