Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain And Burning Sensation In The Toe After A Biopsy?
One month ago I had an area on my left small toe removed to biopsy to rule out verruca. The biopsy was inconclusive but there were some verruca similarities. Now my toe is so painful with burning and peeling skin. It is a little red and swollen, but not typical or obvious for infection with red streaks. I can t wear a shoe due to pain. There is a small amount clear liquid that can be squeezed out and it is very smelly.
It sounds as though you have a bacterial infection at the site now. I advise you go in to have it looked at in person, and will likely receive an antibiotic.
In addition, I advise that you soak the area in hot water several times a day (at least 3 times/day for a few minutes each time) by holding it under running water or soaking in the tub. The heat will facilitate cleaning up the infection and also raises the temperature of the skin so that the bacteria have a harder time multiplying there.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh,
General & Family Physician
