Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain And Burning Sensation On The Back After Blood Transfusion?
I had acute anemia last week and received two transfusions of red platelets last Friday. Feeling better and stronger however, yesterday and today have burning right side pain in back. At first I thought I pulled a muscle because I have been working toward thanksgiving but tonight the pain is severe
Presence of pain in a localized area is very likely not related to the blood transfusion. If the pain is at the level of the kidney then a kidney problem can be considered. If the pain is worse on touch and movement very likely a muscular pain is the case as well. On the other hand you had acute anemia which should have had a possible cause and is something to consider while trying to determine the cause of the back pain.
It is best for you to take some pain killers like paracetamol and ibuprofen and see your doctor to better determine the cause of the pain and have the proper treatment.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
