What Causes Pain And Congestion In The Ears After A Head Injury?

My family and I were playing in the pool and my son and I bumped headed his head hitting directly on the left ear. It was initially painful, but not so much now. I feel like I ve got water in my left ear now and sounds seem muted from that ear as well ... I m assuming everything is fine as there is no blood or pain now, but I m curious how long this underwater feeling should last before I should be concerned?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

May be some water may be entered into ear it may cause temporary hearing loss. You may clean the water or it may resolve its own in one day. If not resolving then you can try water vapor inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. Use ear plugs under water swimming. Please consult your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
