What Causes Pain And Discomfort In The Abdomen After A Hernia Surgery?
My husband had hernia surgery in late April and still complains of pain in the area. He has spinal stenosis and COPD, so he is not very mobile. He has been checked twice to be sure that he doesn t have another hernia and his surgeon suggested that the pain is because he hasn t stretched the mesh lining enough and suggested exercise such as walking or stationary bike. He hasn t done either because of his other conditions. I am concerned that there may be something wrong that just happens to be in the same area as his surgery. When he points out where the pain is, it is always in the exact spot as his scar, which has healed very nicely. He wants to see his PCP again and I want to know if we should pursue other options, such as a CT scan or MRI.
We have to rule out possible causes like bowel adhesion or obstruction. As first line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief. Consult a general surgeon and plan for a CECT abdomen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
