What Causes Pain And Discomfort In The Right Arm?

Using my outstretched right arm and exerting pressure (e.g. pushing something away, or turning a screw) is painful. I know I have insufficiency of the rotator cuff and a torn supra spinatus. I do shoulder exercises. But it is getting less comfortable with age (almost 80). Plus, I play the violin which I have to limit practice time not to make it worse. I am grateful for any hints how to strengthen and stabilize the arm more. Barbara.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

I must first congratulate you on your active life and ability to be the finest violinist, at your age, despite the discomfort.

You have not specified where exactly you have pain, I would presume that the pain is in the shoulder. Since you are doing exercises for shoulder the only thing I can add is a local injection in the shoulder, either steroid or PRP.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Gopal Goel,
