What Causes Pain And Discomfort Under The Ribs On The Left Side?

My daughter is experiencing pain and discomfort under the ribs on her left side only. It is fairly constant, breathing hurts, especially a deep breath and playing the clarinet. It has been about a week. This has also happened before a few times in the past year. Possible increased fatigue. Definitely a lack if appetite

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It seems to be pulmonary pathology if this is the symptoms of pain near the rib region (Chest pain), fatigue, loss of appetite, bacterial infection needs to be ruled out.

In second thought it can be muscular spasm due to continues blowing of air (Playing the clarinet), the muscular spasm can be managed with, muscle relaxant lime Chlorzoxazone orally, if the symptoms persist then x-ray chest is advisable.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
