Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain And Flaky Skin In Nipples While Breastfeeding?
Hi. I am breastfeeding my daughter for almost 13 months. Then now I am experiencing severe pain on my nipples, it is also peeling, flaky and sometimes bleed. What do you think is the problem and how can I relieve the pain, this is more painful hat my first week of breastfeeding. And I am wondering if it is still advisable to continue feeding?
Hi I had gone through the question and understand your concern. It is not advisable to continue breast for this long. Breast feeding is usually done till 6 months and after that weaning should be done along with some top feed. In my opinion you are having sore nipples due to prolonged breast feeding. You should rinse your breast with normal saline after nursing. And i would advise you to start weaning.
Hope this information helps. Let me know if you have any other queries. Thank you.
