What Causes Pain And Fluid Drainage After Piercing Nipples?

I first had my nipples pierced 3 years ago. I recently had a child and had removed them 7 months into my pregnancy in order to breastfeed. I stopped breastfeeding and got my nipples repierced. I've never had issues before with them, but for the past 2 to 3 weeks i have experienced scaliness, pain, and oozing around my areola on my left boob. i thought I was allergic to my metal ring so I switched it for a plastic one but its gotten worse. What could be going on?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The symptoms may be in keeping with an infection of the area. It may resolve with the use of topical antibiotic that you should be able to obtain over the counter.
Examples are BNT, neosporin, bactroban

The use of a mild topical steroid may also be needed to reduce the inflammatory reaction.
Example hydrocortisone

If there is no improvement then you should see your doctor for assessment.

I hope this helps
