Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain And Fluttering Sensation In The Chest?
I am experiencing fluttering in the middle of my chest and some pain (mostly on touch) or when I drive or move a certain way. I have High blood pressure which I take medication for and suffered a stroke 3 years ago. I have been walking regularly since and exercising (aerobics, weightlifting) regularly for the past 3 months, trying to lose weight. I m not sure if I strained something, or if something is going on with my heart. I went to the ER, but after being there 3 hours, they didn t find anything. I ve had a slight cough as well. Not sure what if anything is going on, but I m nervous.
If the pain is on touch then it is not likely to be related to your heart. It may be related to the muscles or other soft tissue in the area. A warm compress to the area, 2 to 3 times a week for 10 to 15 mins along with the use of anti inflammatory medication (eg: ibuprofen or cataflam etc). The fluttering however may be related to slight abnormal rhythm of the heart and an EKG would determine if there are any abnormalities.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
