What Causes Pain And Inexplicable Bruises On The Toes?

I was just sweeping and mopping a LOT two nights ago when suddenly it felt like I couldn t put weight on the outer part of my left foot or else it hurt, so I sat down for awhile, put shoes on and was ok to keep working, but if I took my shoes off, walking on tile hurt! Now this afternoon I look at my foot and it looks like there is a bruise radiating out from where the pinky toe attaches to my foot. What the heck happened to me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is called acute gouty arthritis which cause sudden acute toe pain and erythema which is due to accumulation of uric acid in the body.

You should be tested for uric acid level and take NSAIDs and corticosteroids as treatment. Then as attack goes away, you should start taking Allopurinol uric acid lowering agent.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
