hi Dr I am a female 56yrs old exercise 3times a week drink water and live a healthy life style.. I have noticed in the last few months my left shin area is very painful to the touch and kind of burns right now. Dont know what this could be?? Any ideas thank you in advance LuAnn San Lorenzo
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain and inflammation on the shin , which can occur due to hematoma , infection , ellergic reaction or psoriatic arthritis. Well psoriatic arthritis occurs when your body's immune system begins to attack healthy cells and tissue. The abnormal immune response causes inflammation in your joints as well as overproduction of skin cells. I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination. Doctor may order x-ray , MRI , test for rheumatoid factor or joint fluid test . Doctor may prescribe anti rheumatic drugs like methotrexate , immunosuppressants , TNF-alpha inhibitors , steroid injections and in some severe cases joint replacement surgery . For now control your weight , do light exercises and apply cold compresses .
