What Causes Pain And Irritation In The Left Eye?

Hi. My left eye became red and irritated 4 days ago. In past two days my whole eye socket is painful when I blink or rub my eye. Gets blurry at times. I think something coating it at times. Started using polysporn eye drops today. Should I be concerned. Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for trusting healthcaremagic.
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
The symptoms you have mentioned suggestive "acute conjunctivitis". It could be bacterial or viral in origin. No need to worry regarding this because complete cure is possible and chance of complications are very less.
I suggest you to consult an ophthalmologist or a general practitioner and do the following:-
1.You can take analgesics like "ibuprofen" and "acetaminophen" for pain.
2.Antihistamines like "cetrezine" for itching and watering.
3.Topical antibiotic drops like "ciprofloxacin" or "polysporin" can be applied but it has no role in viral conjunctivitis.
4.Do not rub or squeeze eyes.
If your develop membranes (A advanced stage of conjunctivitis where white membranes are formed over the eye) you need to consult an ophthalmologist and thed membranes have to be manually removed.

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.

Regards.
Dr.Shinas
