Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was wondering i went to the dr because i was experiencing a weird smell coming from my vagina, the dr did a culture and i was prescribed Metronidazole, she didnt tell me anything else. I had sex and then i had my menstral cycle. well then i started experiencing pain and itching. the dr never called me to tell me what it was so i had to call back and she finally told me i had a yeast infection then gave me a cream. i told her that the antibiotics werent working so she told me to take diflucan with the cream. that didnt work. finally i went to my dr and she told me the yeast infection was gone but i still had a bacteria infection. she presribed me clyndamicin and still have the same issues (i had sex while on this medication) she prescribed me clindasee a cream. ( i am currently on my period) should i still use this or just make an appointment with a gyno? i am so confused. i need this gone already. I have had this for a month now.
You seem to be suffering from Vaginitis. If I was your treating physician I would perform a vaginal swab culture and urine culture first of all to reach the confirm diagnosis and its type.....it may be either of three ( bacterial, fungal or trichomoniasis). then my treatment plan would be according to the culture reports. As you have mentioned that you have already taken treatment for both bacterial and fungal vaginitis, i would suggest that you now consult your gynaecologist for further treatment as excessive use of all drugs will make the causative organism resisitant which will make it even harder to cure. Your sexual partner may also have to undergo treatment depending upon the causative organism. The treatment for recurrent infection may require medicines for a longer period of time.
Meanwhile take extra care of hygiene of genital area, wear cotton undergarments and frequents changing of tampons.
I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns. Wishing you good health.
