What Causes Pain And Pressure In The Lower Abdomen?

I had an inguinal hernia repaired and i was told i have a small upper abdominal hernia over a year ago. I smoke cigars occasionally. I get a pain and pressure in the middle and right lower part of my stomach and it feel like something shifts or moves in my stomach. I have had two ultrasounds because I was worried about an abdominal aortic aneurysm but the doctors said there was no signs of that but I am still scared. It does seem to happen more when i smoke. What could the cause be?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In all probability, since you do smoke, you would be having cough, at least occasionally. This would increase intra-abdominal pressure and cause discomfort of both the hernial sites. This may feel like bowel shifting, however the problem is strain on the hernial sites. It would be good if you could stop or reduce smoking. This will help by eliminating cough. Steam inhalations twice a day for 10 minutes will clear the airway and help reduce cough.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
