Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain And Purple Discoloration Of Fingertip When Diagnosed With Acute Paronychia?
Yesterday I was diagnosed with acute paronychia of my right middle finger by my primary care physician. I had a gel manicure the day before and the pain began that night after I went to bed. The pain kept me up most of the night. I was given a prescription for cephalexin 500 mg and have taken 4 doses so far. My finger hurts very much and the area around and under the nail and at the fingertip has turned purple and is very swollen. It was swollen and red yesterday and very, very painful, but no purple color. Should I go to an ER or should I wait until tomorrow to get an appointment with my family doctor? Is this normal in the progression of this condition? I currently take 40 mg Atorvastatin and 800 mg 3x per day for back pain/sciatica. Thank you for your help!
You need to meet the doctor at the earliest. need to assess the progression. If pus has started to form then need to get an incision and drainage procedure or else if delayed for long time then need to remove the nail. meet the doctor at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
