What Causes Pain And Redness On The Tip Of The Foreskin?
Hi, I have a problem that started about a day or so ago. When I pull my foreskin back it feels as though it has a cut or scratch around it. I haven t had sexual activity for a few weeks, but last night when I tried, it was so painful we couldn t continue. It is red and hurts when I pull it back. It s red all the way around the foreskin in what would be covering the head.
Redness, soreness in the tip of the penis is commonly due to poor hygiene & infection. It can be Balanitis caused by infection due to warm & moist skin under the foreskin. You can take a course of amoxicillin orally for seven days & apply Clotrimazole or Hydrocortizone ointment to get relieve. Maintain your hygiene, wear loose fitting cotton clothes.
Keep your groin area clean & dry to prevent growth & multiplication of the infection. Since you are sexually active get STD tests done to stay on the safer side. Get treated at the earliest. Avoid multiple partners & always go for protective sex. Take regular showers.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
