Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my gum feels rough on the upper teeth on the side, only one tooth there and one on the lower part of my teeth on the right side. It feels painful when brushing and sensitive when pressure is applied. Feels like skin is peeling off, is this due to brushing too hard?
As per your complain feeling of roughness on gums as well as sensitivity and pain during brushing are all signs of deposits over the teeth which when not cleaned for a long time can cause calcification and are known as CALCULUS and the deposits appear over and within the gums leading to rough appearance as well as recession of gums and sensitivity and pain is due to exposed root surfaces and if the condition is confined to just two teeth the condition is known as LOCALIZED PERIDONTITIS..
Another thing that has to be checked is that if due to root surface exposure there is formation of root caries due to which there is pain while brushing if the infection would be nearing the nerves which are present in the root canals..
I would suggest you to consult a dentist and get evaluated and in case of periodonitis is the cause professional cleaning of teeth along with antibiotics like amoxicillin and metronidazole oral intake and metronidazole containing ointments for gum massage can help.. For sensitivity desensitizing toothpastes like thermoseal or sensoform etc can be relieving..
In case of root surface caries filling if possible is done and in case of deep root caries mostly extraction is indicated..
Hope this helps..
Thanks and regards..
