About 21 years ago, six month after giving birth, I started having back pain. A multitude of other symptoms appeared and developed into a chronic illness.
About 10 years ago I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. However, none of the Western medicine remedies work sufficiently to abate the symptoms.
Las t August, after becoming suicidal, my new PCP decided to help me look further for a real diagnosis.
About 3 months ago I discovered that the symptoms are at their worst when I eat any type of protein.
So, I was referred to a genetic specialist. The summary of his findings were high Glucose, high bad cholesterol, low good cholesterol, high ammonia, High Lcarnatine, and high Lactate levels. He found that I have MTFHR, and said that all of the above levels could be attributed to it.
However, he said that the genetic issue has nothing to do with the inability to eat protein.
He tested for an inborn protein issue (forgive my lack of info on the terminology) which was negative. He said all of the enzyme levels are fine and found no food allergies. Although at the time of testing I had not eaten proteins for approximately two months
However, within a few hours of eating protein and for the next day and a half I suffer from the following symptoms:
1. Lymph/Sinus Issues-Lympy glands swell, eyes burn and feel dry, severe postnasal drip, ears itch and a white scaly discharge comes out, my mouth is excessively dry, and when I blow my nose air comes out of my tear duct.
2. I have severe pain, stiffness, and swelling in my tendon, joints, muscles, all over my body, however, it is the worst in my neck, back, and shoulders.
3. Heart burn and or I spit up acid/a bitter bile. If I spit up the bile, then the pain and stiffness is less. If no reflux occurs, the pain levels are at their worst.
4. After eating protein I have a tremendous amount of gas (ie. uncontrollable farting and burping)
I have had a colonoscopy and endoscopy, but nothing was found except damage from the reflux and a few polyps, which were removed.
It seems that there is some type of digestive issue. In addition to the problem with eating meats there are other issues that I notice.
1. When I take vitamins I get severe nausea and sever headaches.
2. I can’t eat rice without drinking at the same time as I don’t seem to produce enough saliva to be able to swallow it.
3. Eating dry food like toast, rice, carrots, etc makes me get hiccups.
4. When I eat hot food like soup or oatmeal I get stomach pain and occasionally vomit.
5. When I eat something frozen like popcicles or ice cream I get a slimy reflux. When I drink ice coffee I get the reflux or really sharp pain behind my breast bone.
6. When I took a enzyme supplement with Protease in it I had to go to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain.
7. When I was on the Diet and/or supplements in the Complete Candida Guide Book I was free of pain and symptoms for several months. But they eventually quit working. I don’t know if that is because the diet made you go to the bathroom several times a day and included anti inflammatory agents, like lots of onion and garlic, or that the supplements had anti inflammatory agents.
Other symptoms: profuse sweating, an unexplained rash on my right shin, and severe unexplained abdominal pain in my intestine. At times the intestinal pain feels like child birth and at times it feels like a charley horse. My white blood count is always slightly elevated.
I have gradually gained over 100 pounds. I have been on a 1200 calorie diet and exercised two hours a day, without losing a single pound. Since I stopped eating protein I have gradually lost 6 pounds, without dieting or exercising.
Note: At least 3 of my siblings have the same problem, and each of their children display the same symptoms, including my son. In addition of the siblings that has this same issue has MS and two other siblings have MS.
Do you have any idea what the problem may be?
