Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain And Stiffness In The Extremities When Diagnosed With Peripheral Neuropathy?
I have aching in my muscles and bones. Hand and knee joints stiff. Sharp muscle pain in my arms and legs has started lately. (Feels like piercing flashes). I have been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. Had an outbreak of what was thought to be shingles in my groin about 3 months ago. Numb in the area affected. I am an otherwise healthy 47 year old male.
Neuropathy may affect the sensation in the area and may cause numbness and also pain and discomfort. If you are having these pains for a while and they do not respond to paracetamol and ibuprofen you may talk to your doctor and see the need for using Lyrica to treat nerve-related pain.
On the other hand, you may also need some tests to rule out other possible causes of pain such as arthritis, especially because you have painful and stiff joints. Having a careful examination and probably blood tests such as CBC, ERS, RF, ANA, etc, may be recommended.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
