What Causes Pain And Stiffness In The Jaw After Tooth Extraction?
I was diagnosed with tmj years ago due to clenching my teeth together at night so hard I'd wake up with jaw pain. Since then I have had all my teeth removed for a complete denture. I was told not to wear them at night. Ever since having my teeth removed, I have been waking up with jaw pain, stiffness that radiates to my neck, horrible headaches and a popping or clicking sound when I open or close my mouth. It is getting unbearable and my dentist keeps telling me that it's not tmj and to just deal with it. Could this be tmj and if so, what can I do about it?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that the symptoms are due to TMJ only as the level of damage and injury to the TMJ that has already happened is causing the symptoms.. It can be due to ongoing stress and anxiety too.. Consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Panoramic x ray can help in diagnosis and will be treated accordingly.. You can be advised a course of Anti-inflammatory painkillers, muscle relaxant along with Physiotherapy, anti anxiety medication/( if needed) along with mediation and deep breathing exercises..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
